Bahir Dar, Ethiopia – 2014. Bahir Dar is on the southern end of Lake Tana and is a nice lakeside town with palm trees and a tropical climate. Lake Tana is the headwater of the Blue Nile and one of the local attractions is the Blue Nile Falls. The falls are much less spectacular than they once were because there is now a hydro-electric dam that reduces the water flow in the Nile. Also, we were there ahead of the rainy season so there was much less water in the lake and river.

We drove from Gondar to Bahir Dar and this rock formation was visible from the highway. Our driver called it “God’s finger” pointing to heaven.
